Salt Converter
Salts differ in both purity (how much is actually sodium chloride) and crystal size (how much fits in a spoon). This converter matches two salts by the NaCl they deliver, so a recipe written for one salt works with another.
Salts differ in purity and crystal size. Table salt and Diamond Crystal kosher are matched here by the NaCl they deliver. Always weigh salt by mass — the volume figures show why a tablespoon of one salt is not a tablespoon of another.
Why this matters
Section titled “Why this matters”Diamond Crystal kosher salt weighs roughly half as much per tablespoon as table salt, because its hollow flakes pack loosely. A recipe that says “1 Tbsp salt” delivers very different saltiness depending on which salt you reach for — which is exactly why this site always specifies salt by weight.
